Elbow Surgery Expert
Expert elbow stabilization surgery to restore joint stability and function. Dr. Daniel Feghhi is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in Tommy John surgery, UCL repair, and elbow ligament reconstruction with advanced minimally invasive techniques.
What Is Elbow Stabilization
Elbow stabilization surgery is a procedure to repair or reconstruct the ligaments that hold the elbow joint in place. The most common procedure is Tommy John surgery (UCL reconstruction), which repairs the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) on the inner side of the elbow.
This injury is common in overhead athletes (baseball pitchers, tennis players, volleyball players) and occurs from repetitive stress or acute trauma. Dr. Feghhi performs advanced elbow stabilization using modern surgical techniques to restore full stability and function.
Who Can Benefit
Elbow stabilization surgery is recommended for patients with ligament injuries who want to return to sports or activities requiring full arm function.
Baseball pitchers, tennis players, volleyball players, and javelin throwers who need full elbow function.
Workers who perform repetitive overhead or heavy lifting activities as part of their job.
Active individuals under 60 who want to maintain their active lifestyle and avoid chronic instability.
Patients with recent UCL tears or elbow dislocations who are good candidates for repair.
Patients who attempted physical therapy but still have pain and instability.
Patients with chronic elbow instability who experience recurrent giving way.
The Procedure
Dr. Feghhi performs Tommy John surgery (UCL reconstruction) using advanced surgical techniques designed to restore full stability with optimal outcomes.
You will be placed under general anesthesia. The arm is cleaned and sterilized, and a tourniquet is used to minimize bleeding during the procedure.
Dr. Feghhi harvests a tendon graft - typically from your own hamstring (palmaris longus tendon) or from a donor (allograft). The graft is prepared for reconstruction.
Small bone tunnels are created in the humerus (upper arm bone) and ulna (forearm bone) at the exact locations of the original UCL attachment.
The tendon graft is threaded through the bone tunnels and secured in place using interference screws or suture buttons for rigid fixation.
The incision is closed with sutures or surgical glue. A splint or brace is applied to protect the reconstruction while healing begins.
Dr. Feghhi will discuss graft options with you. Autograft (your own tendon) is often preferred for younger patients, while allograft (donor tissue) may be recommended for older patients or revision cases.
